Revealing Evidence
(2003) M.B. Hanif
& The Sound Voyagers
M.B. Hanif: fiery and compelling performer on alto and soprano
saxophones, leader of the Sound Voyagers and producer of this
CD. First rate musiciansthe excitement
of a live performanceand state of the art recording
technology. A winning combination
indeed! Five tracks from this CD were
recorded at the Clarion Music Center, a well-known venue for world
music in San Francisco.) Two originals
by M.B. Hanif: Homage and Matrix Bluesand one by his long-time
musical colleague, trumpeter, Mark Wright, Tabo, along with
selections from Wayne Shorter and Miles Davis, were strong
influences on the musical development of
Hanif. Mary
Ellen Donald, nationally acclaimed Middle Eastern percussionist,
played tambourine on Homage, bringing a unique flavor to this
piece, including a magical duet with bassist, Kash Killian and a
sparkling solo. Mary Ellen: I am
honored to be a part of this extraordinary CD. I have been a
professional musician for over thirty years, am studying jazz piano
and performing as a jazz singer. So, when I say Revealing
Evidence is my favorite CD, I hope youll take note. One time
I pushed the repeat button and listened to Wayne Shorters Anna
Maria for three hours in a row, never tiring of Hanif and the
Sound Voyagers rendition. Listen for yourself. Enjoy
the richness, freshness, and variety that Hanif has pulled together
from four different bands. Its just plain good
music! |
